Etimoloji
Almanca kökenli bir terim olup, 17. yüzyılda Almanca'ya Fransızca 'accise' (vergi) kelimesinden geçmiştir. Fransızca 'accise' ise Latince 'accisus' (kesilmiş, azaltılmış) kökünden türemiştir. Osmanlı Türkçesi'nde 'ötv' (özel tüketim vergisi) olarak karşılık bulmuştur.
